How to redact a PDF
- Choose a PDF. Add the PDF that has details you need to hide.
- Cover what to hide. Drag boxes over it on the page, find text like emails and phone numbers, or black out whole pages. Move, resize or remove any box.
- Check and download. Look over the redacted pages, then save the new PDF. Your original is untouched.
Common questions
Is the text under the black really removed?
Yes. Redacted pages are drawn again as pictures with the black burned in, so the words under it are not in the new file and can’t be copied, searched or recovered.
Why can’t I select text on a redacted page?
Because the page is a picture now. That’s what makes the redaction permanent. Pages you didn’t redact keep their selectable text.
Can I redact a scanned PDF?
Yes. Draw boxes over what you want to hide. Searching by text needs a PDF with real text, which scans don’t have.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, so your PDF never leaves your device.
